Republican John L. Buono was apparently re-elected Rensselaer County executive Tuesday, but at 10:30 p.m., it was too early to tell whether his coattails were long enough to gain the necessary GOP seats on the County Legislature to support his vetoes.
Unofficial tallies showed Buono with 21,212 votes to Democratic opponent Charles "C.B." Smith's 15,435, with 86 of 132 election districts reporting.
Democrats, however, not only held onto the majority in the 19-member County Legislature, but were on the way to gaining a seat. District Attorney James Canfield was apparently re- elected to a second four-year term in the $82,000-a-year job. He led …
