NSW: Fake $100 notes seized at Sydney airport
SYDNEY, Aug 14 AAP - Customs officers have seized counterfeit $100 notes with a face
value of $600,000 at Sydney airport.
Sixty bundles of the Australian notes were discovered in a travel bag allegedly belonging
to a British man who arrived on a flight from the UK last night, Justice and Customs Minister
Chris Ellison said.
The notes were hidden in layers of clothing, he said.
A 29-year-old man, described as a quality control technician from Manchester, was charged
with importing counterfeit currency.
He was due to appear in Sydney's Central Local Court today.
The maximum penalty for importing counterfeit money is 12 years imprisonment.
Earlier this month, police seized at least 16 high quality fake $100 notes which had
been circulated around Kogarah and Hurstville in Sydney's south.
