Man rescued from river bank

BRISTOL: Firefighters rescued a man who became stuck in mud at theside of the River Avon while trying to retrieve his bike which hadbeen thrown in the river by thieves.

Avon Fire Brigade was called out at 4.30pm yesterday when the man,who was in his 20s, got into difficulties.

Thieves had stolen the man's bike and threw it off BedminsterBridge as he chased after them.

He climbed down to retrieve it but became stuck in themud.Firefighters used a ladder to rescue him and his bike.
