Qld: Storm causes minor damage on Sunshine Coast

BRISBANE, Dec 30 AAP - A storm described as a mini-tornado damaged two houses and left
thousands without power on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane tonight.

The storm struck at about 7pm (AEST) hitting the Palmwoods and Nambour areas.

A spokeswoman for power company Energex said about 20,000 houses were without power
after the storm passed, but repairs had started.

Parts of Caloundra were also blacked out.

"Most of the damage to our network was caused by debris and tree branches being blown
across lines and repair crews were sent out straight away," she said.

Police said locals had described the storm as a mini-tornado.

There were reports of debris and trees being blown across roads, but there were no
reports of injuries.

The two houses which were damaged were in the hinterland area south-west of Nambour,
a spokesman said.
